3.詳細(xì)解說
1.“be able to”的意思是“能夠”，和“can”的意思非常相近。兩者的區(qū)別之一就是“can”只有現(xiàn)在式和過去式兩種形式，要表示將來時(shí)或完成時(shí)則需要用“be able to”代替。
2.“be delighted to do sth.”表示“很高興做某事，做某事很開心”，例如：Sam will be delighted to see you.(山姆見到你會(huì)很開心的。)I'd be absolutely delighted to come.(能來我當(dāng)然非常開心了。)
3.“over”在這里意為“在…期間”，例如：Will you be at home over the summer vacation?(暑假的時(shí)候你能在家嗎?)Over a period of ten years he stole a million pounds from the company.(十年間，他從公司偷了一百萬英鎊。)Can we talk about this over dinner?(我們可以在吃飯的時(shí)候談?wù)撨@件事嗎?)

美國人請(qǐng)客吃飯的禮儀
除節(jié)假日外，應(yīng)邀到美國人家中做客或吃飯一般不必送禮。雖然美國人也有禮尚往來的習(xí)慣，但他們很忌諱接受過重的禮物，一則是美國人不看重禮品自身的價(jià)值，二則是法律禁止送禮過重，從家鄉(xiāng)帶來的工藝品、藝術(shù)品、名酒等都是美國人比較喜歡的禮物。
美國人請(qǐng)客吃飯，屬公務(wù)交往性質(zhì)的多安排在飯店、俱樂部進(jìn)行，由所在公司支付費(fèi)用，關(guān)系密切的親朋好友則會(huì)邀請(qǐng)到家中赴宴。美國人的食物因地區(qū)、民族不同而種類繁多、口味各異，漢堡包、熱狗、餡餅、炸面圈以及炸雞等都是風(fēng)靡世界的食品，但美國人待客的家宴則是經(jīng)濟(jì)實(shí)惠、不擺闊氣、不拘泥形式的。通常的家宴是一張長桌子上擺著一大盤沙拉、一大盤烤雞或烤肉、各種涼菜、一盤炒飯、一盤面包片以及甜食、水果、冷飲、酒類等。賓主圍桌而坐，每個(gè)人各有一個(gè)盤子，用于取食自己所喜歡的飯菜，吃完后隨意添加，邊吃邊談，無拘無束。
美國人將請(qǐng)客人吃飯、喝酒或到鄉(xiāng)間別墅共度周末作為一種交友方式，并不一定要求對(duì)方做出報(bào)答，如有機(jī)會(huì)客人可回請(qǐng)其到自家吃飯就可以了。吃完飯后，客人應(yīng)向主人特別是女主人表示特別感謝。
